Astronaut is the final single to be released off Hotel Utopia in advance of the album’s release. It’s a three and a half minute piece of science fiction fantasy rock all about the aspirations and ambitions of our childhood dreams. It’s about how our childhood’s vision of life is ultimately replaced by reality and how we allow life to erode our dreams and aspirations and the sadness that this can leave behind. As our lifeometer rolls relentlessly on and life’s sky becomes lower and darker, ambitions and regrets fight for dominance but the song is actually full of positivity, commanding us to keep striving for self-actualisation by never giving up on our inner child. But is he dreaming or is it real? All the astronaut ever wanted was to be loved.
